Why: To Safely Dispose of Unused Medications

Mark your calendars! The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is hosting its National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26, 2025. This important event provides a safe, responsible, and anonymous way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications.

Why It Matters

Unused or expired medications can pose serious risks, including accidental poisoning, misuse, and environmental hazards. According to the DEA, many cases of prescription drug misuse start with medications obtained from family and friends. Proper disposal helps prevent these risks and keeps our communities safer.

Find a collection site near you by visiting the DEA Take Back Day website (https://takebackday.dea.gov) or make plans to visit us at our Lexington, MO Clinic! Simply drop off your unwanted medications—no questions asked. We have free Sharps Disposal containers inside our Harm Reduction Vending Machine at the same location as well!

Year-Round Disposal Options

If you can’t make it on April 26, many pharmacies, law enforcement agencies and HCC Clinics offer permanent drop boxes for medication disposal.
