Molly’s Story

Molly first came to HCC Network as a patient and didn’t realize Peer Support services were available until she began attending the weekly NA meetings. It was there that Jimmy Markley, one of HCC’s Peer Recovery Specialists, asked if she’d ever considered working as a peer herself. At the time, Molly held a well-paying union job, but she felt stagnant in her recovery. After praying and trusting that a new path would lead to growth, she made a leap of faith. In October 2022, she left her job and joined HCC in Lexington as a Peer Recovery Specialist.

The role brought positive changes in Molly’s life—more time at home as a single mom, a renewed sense of purpose, and the opportunity to do something she’s truly passionate about. “It’s a really big deal that people trust us despite our past—give us keys, company credit cards, and vehicles. People believe in us. That has had a huge impact,” Molly shared. “Being able to make amends for the wrongs we’ve done by giving back and helping people in the community supports my own recovery.”

Molly celebrated six years sober in January. Since joining HCC, she’s earned four professional credentials, traveled to trainings, and even saw the ocean for the first time. “They say the opposite of addiction is connection and community,” she said. “I’ve found both at HCC—in my coworkers and in the people we serve.”
